What to do before replacing lead-acid batteries with lithium iron phosphate batteries?
Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries have become an increasingly popular topic in recent years. Many friends are asking me that the lead-acid batteries they use now, the equipment size, parameters, etc. have been fixed, then I can directly replace the lead-acid batteries with lithium iron phosphate batteries? The answer is yes, lead-acid batteries can be replaced with lithium iron phosphate batteries.
It only takes the following steps to replace a lead-acid battery with a lithium iron phosphate battery:
1. Matched parameters
The most important thing is that the various parameters of the lithium iron phosphate battery should match the parameters of the device/system. The matching mentioned here is not only the matching of current, voltage, etc., but also the matching of the ambient temperature, working hours, and charging method of the device. It is recommended to consult a professional engineer.
2. Charger
The charger needs to be replaced at the same time. Because the charging curve of lead-acid batteries is completely different from that of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and lithium iron phosphate batteries are generally equipped with a PCM/BMS to ensure that the LiFePO4 battery works within the normal range, the parameters of the charger are higher than those of lead Acid battery. If you use the previous charger directly, the PCM/BMS will activate the protection function or doesn’t charge, which may cause Power shortage or excessive voltage.
After solving the above two points, the preparation work for replacing the lead-acid battery with the lithium iron phosphate battery is basically completed.
Another point is that the volume and weight of lithium iron phosphate batteries are about 30%-40% of lead-acid batteries, so when you decide to upgrade lead-acid batteries to lithium iron phosphate batteries, if you are not satisfied with the capacity and efficiency of lead-acid batteries, the you will be happy to know that in the same space, the specifications and capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries can be 1-2 times that of lead-acid batteries.
