  At present, there are two mainstream battery technology routes in new energy vehicles and energy storage systems: lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries.

  In terms of performance, which ternary lithium battery and lithium iron phosphate battery is better?

  1. The energy density of ternary lithium batteries is generally 200Wh/kg, and may reach 300Wh/kg in the future; lithium iron phosphate batteries are currently basically hovering at 110~150Wh/kg, and it will be very difficult to break through 200Wh/kg in the future. Therefore, under the same energy demand, the ternary lithium battery can save nearly 50% of the space compared with lithium iron phosphate.

  2. Also because of the high energy density, the weight is much smaller. Under the same energy demand, the ternary lithium battery can be nearly half the weight of lithium iron phosphate.

  3. The advantage of lithium iron phosphate batteries is that they are very safe, while ternary lithium batteries are generally recognized as poor in safety. The material of lithium iron phosphate will not burn when encountering a short circuit, and its high temperature resistance is superior to that of ternary lithium batteries.

  4. Although the lithium iron phosphate battery can withstand high temperatures, the ternary lithium battery has better low temperature resistance. When using lithium iron phosphate batteries in a low temperature environment, it is best to add heating and heat preservation functions to the electronic circuit.

  5. The experimental data shows that there is little difference between the two when charging under 10C, but it will open the distance above 10C. When charging at 20C, the constant current ratio of the ternary lithium battery is 52.75%, and the constant current ratio of the lithium iron phosphate battery It is 10.08%.

  6. In terms of cycle life, lithium iron phosphate batteries are far superior to ternary lithium batteries. The life of a ternary lithium battery is generally 500-1000 times; the life of a lithium iron phosphate battery is generally 3000-5000 times, which is more than 5 times the life of a ternary lithium battery.
