BMW and Daimler are sued for refusing to stop production of diesel locomotives by 2030
According to Reuters, best-selling car manufacturers including Daimler and BMW are facing lawsuits. In July of this year, the European Union proposed to ban internal combustion vehicles from the market before 2035 in order to combat climate change, but the German environmental NGO DUH seems to feel that this is not good enough and should set a five-year deadline for these companies.
However, neither BMW nor Daimler acknowledged these requirements. Greenpeace and the German non-governmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) threatened that if the auto giants do not take firm action to stop production of internal-combustion vehicles by 2030, they will have to deal with Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz took legal action. According to DUH, this is in line with the Paris climate agreement and relevant German laws. It is worth mentioning that the above statement occurred two years after Volkswagen's exhaust emission scandal was accused.
Although some people may think that the actions of DUH and other institutions are a bit too much, the outside world is curious about the slow actions of BMW and Mercedes in the process of full battery transformation. BMW currently only offers i3 electric vehicles in the United States, while Mercedes only lists the EQ electric vehicle lineup under the "Future" tab on its website.
Although the two automakers did not elaborate on their action plans after the lawsuit, they both confirmed their commitments to the goals of the Paris climate agreement. Considering that Daimler was still resolving US$2 billion worth of claims last year, one would think that the automaker would be more eager to "please" organizations such as DUH.
The brand announced an electric vehicle launch plan more than a year ago. The plan will build a completely different product lineup in 2030. The goal is to achieve full electrification in the near future. However, there have been various delays in the launch of EQ electric vehicles. Although BMW’s electrification plan seems to be progressing slowly, the brand’s first electric SUVs iX and i4 are currently accepting reservations.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect substitute for lead-acid batteries, and are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
