How to effectively improve the performance technology of lithium-ion batteries

Researchers from Rice University and Lockheed Martin reported that they have discovered a technology to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries through monocrystalline silicon. This technology can be used in the research and development of electric vehicle batteries, helping to produce new types of batteries with stronger energy, longer life, and more charge/replacement cycles.

This technology was hosted by Sibani Lisa Biswal, an assistant professor in the School of Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University, and was published earlier this month on the "Chemistry of Materials" webpage edited by the American Chemical Society. The replacement of graphite in traditional batteries with monocrystalline silicon bodies is a key step in this technology. Compared with ordinary batteries, the new type of lithium-ion battery produced using this technology has a larger capacity. Another experiment proved that the ability of single crystal silicon to absorb lithium is 10 times that of graphite. This means that if this technology enters the stage of commercial production, the battery performance and life span of electric vehicles will be greatly improved. It is reported that the research and development of this new battery technology has been supported by the Lockheed Martin Advanced Nanotechnology Center of Excellence in the United States.
