  What are the key points to pay attention to when replacing lead-acid batteries with lithium iron phosphate batteries?

  Lithium iron phosphate batteries are perfectly matched to lead-acid batteries because of their voltage platform and safety performance. Especially, they have a cycle life of up to 4000 times. This has prompted more and more consumers to abandon lead-acid batteries and use lithium iron phosphate batteries instead.

  However, the two are not batteries of the same system after all, so when replacing, what are the key points that need to be paid attention to?

  1. The space problem of the battery

  Under the same specifications, the volume of the lithium iron phosphate battery is only half of the lead-acid battery, and the weight is only 35% of the lead-acid battery. In theory, the space is completely sufficient. But consider whether it can still be installed in the original position, whether it protrudes or is squeezed.

  2. You must use a charger that meets the type of battery

  Because the charging mode, voltage, and current required for the two batteries are different, the original charger cannot be used directly.

  3. Socket replacement

  The interfaces of the two are generally different, and you must use a matching socket to change the battery.

  4. Cut-off voltage

  Discharge cut-off voltage = number of blocks * battery discharge cut-off voltage. For example, a 48V lead-acid battery is 4*10.5=42V, and a lithium iron phosphate battery is 16*2.5=40V or 15 strings of lithium iron.

  5. Select the protection board according to the motor power and the controller

  For example, the car has a 500-watt motor and a 60V battery. The commonly used formula of protection board current:

  (Watt/Volt)*(2.2~2.5)

  Some motors are older, the current will increase, and the current parameters should be appropriately enlarged.

  6. Replace the fuse

  The lithium iron phosphate battery has strong power and high current, and the original fuse may be burned out when it starts suddenly.

  7. Pay attention to capacity

  Replace the lithium iron phosphate battery with the same capacity and voltage. The actual capacity of the lithium battery is more than that of the lead-acid battery. This is because the lithium battery can achieve 100% DOD, but the lead-acid battery is generally only recommended to be placed at 70%, otherwise Lead-acid batteries are easily damaged. Another important reason is that the large current characteristics of lead-acid batteries are poor, with only 50% capacity when discharged at 1C, while lithium batteries can basically achieve 100% DOD under 1C conditions.

  8. Waterproof

  Protection level: IP**, the following two numbers, the first number is the solid state protection level (range 0-6); the second number is the liquid protection level (range 0-8). The larger the number, the stronger the protection capability. Lead-acid batteries are generally sealed with sealant or filled with quick sol, and the waterproof function is very good. But the lithium iron phosphate battery is not necessary.

  9. Change the charging method

  Lithium batteries have no memory effect, and the batteries can be charged or discharged at any time. Of course, when not in use for a long time, you need to charge it regularly, after all, lithium batteries have self-consumption.
