NCM811 high nickel lithium battery is more difficult from raw materials to battery cell manufacturing, mainly reflected in the following points:
(1) The processing process is completely different from the traditional 523. The lithium salt requires lithium hydroxide, and the sintering requires two calcinations in a sealed manner. At the same time, pure oxygen is used to replace air, which requires extremely strict moisture control. At the same time, after the sintering is completed, a series of post-treatments are required in a completely airtight and moisture-proof space to meet the final use.
(2) The requirements for moisture in the manufacturing process are significantly stricter than those of NCM523, and manual operation is basically impossible. An automated workshop with complete dust-free and precise humidity control is required. At the same time, the control requirements for process nodes are more stringent than ordinary NCM523 batteries.
(3) The process requires complexity and precision of control. The double processing complexity of the positive electrode and the battery makes the defective rate of the two links higher than the current level of NCM523. At the same time, considering the relative unsafety of NCM811 (the exothermic peak is advanced, the gas production is higher than that of NCM523), so it is consistent It is necessary to further provide safety redundancy in the current technical level for the protection of the performance control and the protection of the battery link.
(4) The overall scale of the industry is small and qualified suppliers are limited, which limits the speed of short-term cost decline. As the overall scale of global NCM811 installed capacity is relatively limited (Panasonic has its own unique supplier system), qualified suppliers or OEMs in the positive electrode link are relatively limited.
