Although lead-acid batteries have many shortcomings, such as harmful to the environment, heavy weight, low energy and other shortcomings, and can perfectly replace it with lithium iron phosphate super high energy, up to 4000 times the cycle life of the cost continues to decline, lead-acid batteries are facing a shrinking situation. However, lead-acid batteries also have the characteristic of high safety, so many occasions still use the lead-acid batteries developed two hundred years ago.
Lead-acid batteries also have many bad phenomena, of which internal short circuit is a more serious bad situation, the following we will analyse the performance of this bad phenomenon, the reasons.
A: Lead-acid battery short-circuit phenomenon is mainly manifested in the following aspects.
1) Low open-circuit voltage, closed-circuit voltage (discharge) quickly reaches the termination voltage.
2) When discharging at high current, the output voltage quickly drops to zero.
3) When open circuit, the electrolyte density is very low, and the electrolyte will freeze in low temperature environment.
4) When charging, the voltage rises very slowly and always remains low (sometimes dropping to zero).
5) When charging, the electrolyte temperature rises very high and quickly.
6) When charging, the electrolyte density rises very slowly or hardly changes at all.
7) When charging, no bubbling or bubbling appears very late.
B. The main causes of internal short circuit of lead-acid batteries include
1) Poor quality or defective bulkheads.
2) Problems with the position of the separator plate, resulting in the positive and negative pole plates being connected.
3) The active material on the electrode plate swells and falls off, causing the positive and negative electrode plates to be connected due to excessive deposits of the fallen active material, resulting in the lower edge or side edges of the positive and negative electrode plates coming into contact with each other and the deposits.
(4) Conductive objects fall into the battery, causing the positive and negative plates to be connected.
(5) The residual material formed during welding of the electrode cluster exists between the positive and negative plates and damages the separator during charging and discharging, resulting in the positive and negative plates being connected.
Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) have become the main energy storage solution in the life of modern society. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are perfect replacements for lead-acid batteries, and are more preferred for grid-connected peaking, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data centres and other industries.
