2445MWh! Terra-Gen builds the world's largest solar + energy storage project in California

　　Renewable energy developer Terra-Gen recently stated that it is building a solar + energy storage project in Kern County, California, which is said to be the world's largest one.

　　After the Edwards Sanborn Solar + Energy Storage Project is fully completed, it will operate a solar farm with a total installed capacity of 760MW and a battery energy storage system with a total energy storage capacity of 2,445MWh. The project combines independently deployed battery energy storage systems and solar + energy storage projects.

　　Terra-Gen said in August this year that 346MW solar power generation facilities and 1501MWh battery energy storage systems will be deployed in the initial phase of the project, and the $804 million financing it needs has ended. According to the plan, its first deployment of 735MWh battery energy storage system will be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year, and the rest of the facilities in the first phase will be put into operation in the second quarter of 2022. The remaining facilities will receive financing and open operations in 2022 and 2023.

　　Terra-Gen has signed power purchase agreements with many underwriters, including the famous coffee seller Starbucks. The company has signed an agreement to purchase 24MW solar power generation facilities and 5.5MW battery energy storage system power in the project, to help provide electricity to some of its stores in California.

　　The project currently employs more than 500 workers and 750 workers during the peak period of construction.

　　Clean Power Alliance (CPA) is on the list of power off-takers. The company is one of the California Community Choice Aggregators (CCA). CPA recently stated that it is obtaining 100MW of clean energy power from the Edwards Sanborn solar + energy storage project.

　　In the past year or two, people will see dozens of CCA sign power purchase agreements for the state's independent deployment of battery energy storage systems and solar + energy storage projects, of which CPA purchases the most electricity.

　　According to the California Community Choice Aggregator Association (CalCCA) survey, as of November 3, the state’s Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) has signed a power purchase agreement for a 2,183.7MW/9,237.6MWh long-term energy storage system, which includes CPA and Edwards Sanborn signed a 15-year power purchase agreement for the 100MW/400MWh optical storage project.

　　Renewable energy developer Clearway began construction of the Daggett solar + energy storage project in October of this year. This is another largest solar + energy storage project in California. The project is adjacent to a decommissioned coal and natural gas power generation project in San Bernardino. factory. CPA is also one of the power contractors for the solar + energy storage project, and the other two CCA and two utility companies are also the contractors for the project. After the Daggett solar + energy storage project is completed, it will operate a 482MW solar power generation facility and a 394MW battery energy storage system.
