Whether it is a gasoline car, a diesel car or an electric car, the lengthy work required to refuel the vehicle in the past will become history.

Recently, BMW released a wireless charging pad for the 530e iPerformance sedan. The car model to which the charging board is applicable requires wireless charging facilities to be installed in the factory. When the vehicle stops on the charging board called GroundPad, the vehicle battery starts to charge automatically.

GroundPad is the world's first wireless charging pad designed and developed by mainstream car manufacturers. It is worth mentioning that Tesla electric car owners can install wireless chargers for their vehicles for post-modification, but Tesla has not announced any news about the introduction of wireless charging technology in future models.

It is reported that the GroundPad wireless charging pad can be installed in any private driveway. In the same environment, the 85% efficiency of the wireless charging pad is equivalent to the 90% efficiency of plug-in charging. The gap between the vehicle and the GroundPad when charging is about 3 inches. The GroundPad can fully charge the BMW 530e iPerformance sedan within three and a half hours with a charging power of 3.2 kilowatts.

Before the vehicle approaches the charging board, the in-vehicle display screen will display navigation information to guide the vehicle to accurately reach the charging board position. When the vehicle is stopped and turned off, charging will start automatically; when the vehicle is fully charged, the charging board will automatically stop working.

BMW pointed out in a statement: "The inductive charging technology used in BMW's wireless charging pad has been widely used in other charging devices, such as mobile phones and electric toothbrushes. In fact, the same is used for recharging batteries in existing electric vehicles. Inductive charging technology."

Compared with the wired charging operation process, wireless charging gives users unparalleled convenience.

Although the charging efficiency of the wireless charging board is only 5% lower than that of wired charging, there are opinions that the wireless charging board needs to use more energy to charge the vehicle, which means that the user's charging cost will be higher.

On the other hand, it is expensive to install wireless charging facilities inside the vehicle and in the garage. According to relevant published information, the cost of installing a wireless charging conductor in a vehicle is 890 Euros (approximately US$1,027), and the cost of installing GroundPad is 2315 Euros (approximately US$2672), which means that if the vehicle is to use BMW wireless charging Function, the total cost is about 3700 US dollars.

BMW wireless charging kits have been launched in the German market first, and will subsequently be launched in the UK, US, Japan and China markets.

Tesla is currently developing an automatic plug-in charger that can automatically find the vehicle charging input port after the vehicle is parked.
