The packaging technology of lithium batteries is simply the final appearance of the lithium battery, which has a significant impact on the final performance of the battery.
Even if the material formula is the same, the finished products of lithium batteries produced by different packaging processes are different in terms of safety, energy density, and cycle life.
Currently, packaging technologies can be divided into three categories:
Prismatic battery cell
This type of battery has small gaps, tight internal materials, is not easy to expand, and is relatively safe. The shell adopts aluminum-magnesium alloy with lower density, lighter weight and higher strength to further strengthen the internal protection.
The disadvantage is that the consistency is poor, and because it can be customized according to demand, there are many models on the market and the process is not uniform.
Cylindrical battery cell
Although the prismatic battery is packaged with a metal casing, the size is smaller, the consistency is better, the energy density is relatively high, the production process is mature and the cost is low.
The disadvantage is that the overall performance is average, the number of cells in the battery pack is relatively large, and the utilization of space is poor, resulting in lower energy density of the battery pack.
Pouch battery cell
The performance is the best among the three routes, with flexible dimensions, high energy density and light weight.
The disadvantage is that the mechanical strength is not high, the production process is more complicated, the production cost is high, it is greatly affected by the environmental temperature, and the cost performance is average.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
The packaging technology of lithium batteries has been advancing. In the future, packaging technology that takes into account performance, safety and price will inevitably appear.
