Powin Energy provides 40MW battery energy storage system for California energy storage project

　　Powin Energy, an American energy storage system integrator, and Ingeteam, a photovoltaic inverter manufacturer, said recently that they have provided battery energy storage systems and related equipment for two battery energy storage projects in California with an installed capacity of 20MW.

　　Powin Energy has been selected as the battery energy storage system supplier for the Rabbitrush solar + energy storage project, which was developed by Leeward Renewable Energy Company in Kern County, California for the solar + energy storage project. According to a report in November, Leeward’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor McCarthy Construction has begun construction on the project site.

　　This solar + energy storage project will deploy 100MW solar power generation facilities and 20MW/50MWh battery energy storage systems. It is worth noting that it is the first project that Leeward has acquired from solar developer First Solar. All projects are expected to reach 10GW of solar energy. First Solar will use thin-film photovoltaic modules produced by domestic manufacturers in the United States.

　　Powin Energy will provide a complete battery energy storage solution, including batteries, battery cabinets, cables, transformers, inverters, and all software and control systems. The company will install its Stack230P battery energy storage system.

　　Powin Energy said that the Stack230P battery energy storage system has a continuous discharge time of 1.5 hours, which is suitable for grid services such as frequency regulation. The Stack230P battery energy storage system was released by the company in April this year, and Powin Energy has just launched the Centipede modular battery energy storage solution, allowing users to combine multiple Stack750E battery energy storage systems.

　　Powin Energy will debug the battery energy storage system and provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services.

　　Although it was previously expected that the opening date of this solar + energy storage project was August 2022, it has now been postponed to December 2022. Leeward has signed contracts with multiple companies, including two Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) energy suppliers.

　　At the same time, photovoltaic inverter manufacturer Ingeteam revealed this month that the company provided battery inverters to the 20MW/80MWh independently deployed battery energy storage system operated by Johanna Energy Storage System in Orange County, California.

　　Johanna Company opened and operated this battery energy storage project in late September this year. The project is an energy storage joint venture (JV) Co-deployed.

　　This lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery energy storage system with a continuous discharge time of 4 hours is also provided by Powin Energy, and uses 20 1500V Ingeteam battery inverters, which can support grid applications such as frequency adjustment.

　　As previously reported. The project is part of a study by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) that aims to explore how to best integrate renewable energy into the grid and how to meet the continued and anticipated growth in energy demand in Orange County.
