To save fuel, more and more new cars have been equipped with automatic start-stop systems. And equipped with this system, it will inevitably also need to match an independent operation of the automatic start-stop special battery.
It is also a lead-acid battery. Can ordinary lead-acid batteries replace lead-acid batteries for start-stop?
The answer is no.
When the start-stop system is working, the battery needs to be charged and discharged quickly, and ordinary lead-acid batteries cannot be charged and discharged with high current many times in a short period.
Due to the frequent operation of the start-stop system, the start-stop battery has to be used more frequently than ordinary batteries. Therefore, it is required to be more durable in design, with higher standards, and the service life is more than 3 times that of ordinary batteries.
You may not find a difference in the short-term installation of ordinary batteries, but because the working strength of ordinary batteries cannot meet the requirements, after many starts, the battery will be in a state of obvious power loss. When the system detects that the battery power is insufficient to restart the vehicle, the start-stop system will no longer work.
They are all start-stop lead-acid batteries, can EFB replace AGM?
The answer is still no.
First, let us take a look at these two start-stop batteries.
EFB battery is based on traditional battery technology, through adjusting the active material formula, and then improve the battery deep cycle performance. This battery has a longer service life and stronger shock resistance, as well as a good charge acceptance. It is suitable to be installed near the engine compartment and is resistant to high temperatures. There are relatively more installations in Japanese cars.
AGM battery adopts a lean-liquid design. The electrode plates are not immersed in the electrolyte. Except for a part of the electrolyte inside the electrode plates, most of the electrolyte is adsorbed on the porous glass fiber separator. The plate maintains a certain proportion of the gaps, which are not occupied by the electrolyte, thereby increasing the battery's deep cycle life (up to 3 times that of ordinary batteries) and service life. AGM batteries should avoid high temperatures and are suitable for normal temperature environments under the seats and the trunk. There are relatively more installations in high-end cars in Europe and America.
In terms of electrolyte density, AGM batteries are higher than EFB batteries, resulting in higher voltages of AGM batteries than EFB batteries. Under the same voltage, 100% of the EFB power corresponds to 80% of the AGM battery.
For example, when the power of a certain model is lower than 70%, the start-stop function cannot be used (the requirements of each model are different). If the AGM battery is replaced with EFB, and the system detects that the EFB power is lower than 90%, the start-stop function may not work properly. Phenomenon of use.
From a technical point of view, EFB is not allowed to replace AGM battery, but there are cases in the market that EFB replaces AGM battery. If AGM battery is installed in the engine compartment, you can consider replacing AGM battery with EFB, but you need to adjust the computer parameters, otherwise the battery will be used. If the lifespan is short, the start-stop function may not be used, and the start-stop function may not be able to be started when the temperature is very low. The battery installation location is not in the engine room. It is strictly forbidden to replace the AGM battery with EFB.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect substitute for lead-acid batteries, and are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
