The German factory of CATL obtained the battery cell production license
On April 4th, CATL's first European factory in Thuringia, Germany officially obtained the battery cell production license, which marked a milestone step in the global layout of CATL. At the same time, this factory enhanced CATL's global lithium battery market. The status of the industry also gives the US government a revelation: if you are active enough, battery factories are not difficult.
At the celebration ceremony held in the "Crossroads of Erfurt" industrial zone on the same day, Anja Siegesmund, Minister of Environment, Energy and Nature Conservation of Thuringia, Germany, and Wolfgang Tiefensee, Minister of Economic Affairs, officially issued the first letter to Matthias Zentgraf, Co-President of CATL Europe. With the second-phase license, the German factory of CATL obtained 8GWh of cell capacity license.
The factory is also the first battery factory in Germany and is currently in the equipment installation stage. "The German factory of CATL has brought a strong boost to the urgently needed energy transition in the world, and we are delighted to be the first battery company to be approved as 'Made in Germany'." Zentgraf said that the approval process was very smooth and fast, and the state government of Thuringia cooperated with the state government. Cooperation on approvals is exemplary. Siegesmund said that electric vehicles in Germany are currently developing rapidly, and Turingen welcomes companies that actively practice the concept of sustainable development from the production stage.
"For Thuringia, the CATL German factory is one of the most important industrial investments in recent decades," Tiefensee said. "This project may be the spark that ignites the 'Thuringia Battery Silicon Valley', which has already led to a There are a lot of suppliers in the area.”
The German factory of the CATL mainly consists of two parts: G1 is a factory purchased from other companies to assemble cells into modules. G2 is a newly built plant for the production of batteries. This license is a cell production license for G2. Many of SES Power's products also use CATL cells, and its quality is indeed very good, especially the products that use CATL's lithium iron phosphate square aluminum shell cells, such as 12V100Ah, 24V100Ah, 36V100Ah, 48V100Ah, and household energy storage 3KW, 5KW system, rack-mounted energy storage system and other products are very popular with customers. The specification sheet CATL gave us shows that it can withstand nearly 8,000 cycles, which means that SES Power's customized lithium battery products can achieve a warranty period of nearly ten years.
Zentgraf said the CATL German factory is almost as complex as a chip factory, with strict requirements for clean rooms, technical cleanliness and constant humidity. In addition, to make battery production sustainable, part of the factory's energy comes from solar panels on the roof of the building.
The construction of the German factory of CATL started in 2019 and is planned to be officially put into operation at the end of 2022, which will provide 1,500 jobs to the local area. The factory plans to invest a total of 1.8 billion euros, with a planned production capacity of 14GWh, and will provide a total of 2,000 local jobs in the future. The factory is located in the heart of Germany and will provide high-quality products and services for major German automakers to help Europe's full electrification and energy transition.
