FlexGen will deploy 2.1GWh battery energy storage system in California
The CEO of FlexGen Power Systems, an American energy storage integrator, said a few days ago that it will provide a 2.1GWh BESS for a battery energy storage project in California. This energy storage project reflects California's leading position transition to a cleaner modern power grid.
FlexGen has been selected by Ameresco, a clean energy solution provider, to provide battery energy storage systems and management software for the 537.5MW/2,150MWh battery energy storage project portfolio deployed at three sites in southern California.
In order to help alleviate the energy shortage experienced by California, especially during the peak summer period, battery energy storage projects in and around the San Joaquin Valley, Cucamonga and Long Beach areas in and around California will be used during periods of surplus power from the grid. Use cheap electricity to charge the battery. During the peak demand period, it is released according to the needs of the grid.
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency this summer and enacted legislation to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy power generation facilities and energy storage projects.
In an interview with industry media, FlexGen CEO Kelcy Pegler said, “In many ways, this is a milestone project. Thank you California government for showing leadership in this power grid transformation. Many people are paying attention to this. Project, California and other places will pay attention to this project."
Pegler said that battery energy storage systems can provide a lot of help for this transition, because it lies in the intersection between the traditional power generation facilities of the grid and the newer clean and green assets-these renewable energy power generation assets happen to be intermittent. .
Southern California Edison (SCE) will own these battery energy storage assets, which will be connected to substations on the distribution network. Ameresco has previously stated that these energy storage projects will be opened and put into commercial operation in August 2022.
Pegler said that the software Hybrid OS developed by FlexGen can manage and monitor battery energy storage projects, which is essential to realize Ameresco’s value proposition. “Hybrid OS can provide software, control and a platform to operate battery energy storage systems. Different times mean different things. Hybrid OS was first used for military microgrid management. With the advancement of technology and the development of use cases, it has now become a major project in cooperation with Southern California Edison (SCE) and Ameresco. We will provide battery energy storage systems and make the grid more reliable and smarter."
FlexGen deploys lithium-ion battery energy storage systems in multiple markets in the United States, and focuses its development on Texas. The company is the most productive energy storage in the Texas Electric Reliability Council (ERCOT) market One of the integrators.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
