Solar energy developer Canadian Solar and renewable energy developer Windel Energy are cooperating in the UK to develop large-scale battery energy storage projects with a scale of 1.5GW/3GWh.

Canadian Solar said that the battery energy storage project will strengthen its partnership with Windel Energy after the two companies recently committed to develop solar power generation facilities with a total installed capacity of 1.4GW in the UK.

The two companies have signed a 1.5GW/3GWh battery energy storage project development agreement. Canadian Solar will provide funding and support, and Windel Energy will mainly develop and deploy battery energy storage projects.

This is very similar to the 1.4GW solar power facility deployed by the two parties in the UK. Canadian Solar provides financial support and purchases electricity through a power purchase agreement (PPA). Windel Energy mainly develops and constructs this project. Windel Energy is exploring the co-location of solar power generation facilities and battery energy storage systems.

Canadian Solar itself is also actively developing and deploying battery energy storage systems, such as the 300MW Slate solar power generation facility and 140MW/561MWh battery energy storage system being deployed in California, USA, as well as the 75MW/75MW/s that are supporting the deployment of 100MW solar power generation facilities in operation.
