The 50MW/50MWh battery energy storage project put into operation by Pivot Power is the first to be connected to the British power grid

　　Pivot Power, a British renewable energy developer, deployed and operated a 50MW/50MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system in Oxford. This became the first energy storage project produced in the UK through the "Tertiary connection" method that can be directly connected to the grid.

　　Grid operator National Grid confirmed this, which Roisin Quinn, the company's director of customer relations, described as a "great achievement."

　　"Tertiary connection" provides a way to connect directly to National Grid's high-voltage transmission network, which can provide services that stabilize the grid.

　　The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) becomes part of the "Oxford Energy Super Hub", which is a low-carbon smart energy system that integrates distributed energy technologies including electric vehicle (EV) chargers, heat pumps and energy storage systems. According to industry media reports in May this year, the Oxford Energy Super Hub will deploy 38 fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers.

　　As part of Pivot Power's plan to develop and deploy a lithium battery energy storage system of up to 2GW in the UK, the energy storage system is the first energy storage project put into use in the plan. It was put into operation in June, and it followed The Kemsley energy storage project deployed in Kent, southern England, is in operation.

　　Its Pivot Power company's other two projects in Coventry and Sandwell are also about to open and operate, and the overall scale of these two energy storage projects is 100MW/200MWh.
