Tesla asks for an increase in civil penalties
According to reports, Tesla is putting pressure on the administration of US President Joe Biden. The company is demanding swift action to increase civil penalties for automakers who fail to meet fuel economy requirements.
Previously, Tesla made a lot of profits by selling carbon credits to traditional car companies. Tesla said that because former President Donald Trump (Donald Trump) changed the rules, the value of these carbon credits was reduced. As a pure electric car company, Tesla holds a lot of environmental protection points. However, after the value of the points is reduced, its profits are immediately discounted, which is why Tesla expects to increase the fuel consumption standard.
The US NHTSA said in a notice on August 18 that the agency may impose higher penalties on automakers whose previous models did not meet the fuel efficiency requirements. Many automakers have since warned that increasing penalties may cost them at least $1 billion a year.
Tesla recommended that NHTSA immediately withdraw Trump's actions, saying that it "produces ongoing uncertainty in the investment and transactions in the integrated industry." Tesla also believes that "any delays will continue to adversely affect the credit market until the problem is resolved."
Tesla said: "NHTSA's slow rule-making speed has brought uncertainties. These uncertainties are made more complicated by another round of litigation that may arise, and it will continue for several years." A number of big car companies, including General Motors, Toyota, Ford, and Volkswagen, asked the court to reject Tesla's request.
According to Tesla's 2020 earnings report, Tesla earned 1.58 billion yuan in profits by selling carbon credits to traditional car companies. And Tesla's net profit that year was 721 million US dollars. It can be said that Tesla’s current carbon credits are its biggest source of profit.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect substitute for lead-acid batteries and are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
