US SEIA sent a letter to the Department of Commerce: Anti-dumping tariffs on imported components from Southeast Asia will endanger one-third of solar projects

On September 22, the US Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) stated in a letter to the Department of Commerce that according to the actual market conditions, by 2023, anti-dumping tariffs will endanger 18 GW of solar projects.

The Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) warned that tariffs on imported components from three Asian countries will affect 30% of solar projects in the United States in the next two years. SEIA stated in a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo that these tariffs will have a devastating blow to the growth of the US renewable energy industry.

Earlier in mid-August, the US Solar Manufacturers Alliance submitted a petition to the Department of Commerce, requesting an anti-circumvention investigation of crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells and modules imported from Southeast Asia, saying that the region imported silicon wafers and other upstream components and other components from Chinese manufacturers. Production and processing of materials, simple processing and assembly of photovoltaic cells and modules for export to the United States, in order to circumvent the United States' ongoing anti-dumping and countervailing duties on the products involved in the Chinese case.

SEIA President and CEO Abigail Ross Hopper (Abigail Ross Hopper) said in a statement that these petitioners asked the Department of Commerce to "be based on U.S. law" and "overturn a decade of "Departmental decision", she said, "These reckless petitions will pose a terrible threat to hundreds of thousands of American families. We urge the business sector to use its discretion to reject these boring petitions."

The Ministry of Commerce may decide in early October whether to conduct trade investigations on solar cells and modules imported from Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. Solar modules imported from these countries account for 80% of the total US solar module imports.

This is a dilemma. It is undeniable that there may indeed be problems mentioned by the petitioners, but SEIA observes more far-reaching. After all, in a short period of time, the United States cannot find the best alternative to photovoltaic panels, lithium batteries and other products. country of origin.

Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect substitute for lead-acid batteries and are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
