What kind of disadvantages caused the market share of lead-acid batteries to be replaced by lithium batteries?
Although lead-acid batteries still occupy a significant share of the global battery market, due to some of its own disadvantages, the market share is constantly being replaced by more advanced and environmentally friendly batteries such as lithium batteries.
What kind of disadvantages caused the market share of lead-acid batteries to be replaced by lithium batteries?
1. Low energy density
The energy density of lead-acid batteries is only about 1/3 of that of lithium-ion batteries, and about 1/2 of that of nickel-hydrogen batteries, and they are relatively large, so they are not suitable for use in light and small applications.
2. Short cycle life
Lead-acid batteries have a short cycle life. The theoretical cycle times are generally only about 500 weeks, while the cycle times of lithium iron phosphate batteries are as high as 4000 weeks.
3. There is a risk of lead pollution in the industry chain
Lead accounts for more than 60% of battery quality, and the global lead-acid battery uses more than 80% of the total lead. Lead is a heavy metal, and the lead-acid battery manufacturing industry chain (including primary lead smelting, battery manufacturing, battery recycling, and secondary lead smelting) has a high risk of lead pollution.
4. There is a risk of cadmium contamination in power lead-acid batteries.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
Compared with lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have the advantages of long life, small footprint, low load-bearing requirements, simple maintenance, environmental protection, reliability and stability.
