As a professional manufacturer with nearly 20 years of experience in the lithium-ion battery industry, SES Power also has a lot of cooperation with these companies, such as lead-acid replacement products (lithium iron phosphate 12V100Ah, 12V200Ah), high-voltage UPS, high-power inverters Lithium battery system (up to 860V), 3Kw~20Kw off-grid, grid-connected lithium battery energy storage system, cabinet battery system (standard 19 inches), intelligent wall-mounted lithium-ion energy storage system, stacked lithium-ion energy storage system, etc. , almost all use their high-quality square aluminum case lithium-ion batteries. These well-known manufacturers have gone out of China for global deployment. In SES Power's view, this is undoubtedly a correct trend. We are also trying to build our lithium-ion energy storage system in Southeast Asia. If you are interested, please contact us.
Let's sort out the plans and actions of these famous companies around the world:
A: On August 12, CATL officially announced the construction of a battery factory in Debrecen, a city in eastern Hungary.
The planned production capacity of this plant is 100GWh, and the investment amount is 7.34 billion euros. This is also the second factory built by CATL in Europe after the German factory.
It is reported that the city of Debrecen, Hungary is located in the heart of Europe. The Debrecen factory of CATL is close to the OEMs of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Stellantis, Volkswagen and other customers, which will help CATL better respond to the needs of the European market and further Improve the global strategic layout and accelerate the electrification and energy transformation in Europe.
On the same day, Mercedes-Benz said that CATL will provide high-performance and carbon-neutral battery cells for its next-generation electric vehicles produced in Europe, in response to the localized procurement strategy. Mercedes-Benz has also become the first and largest customer of the new plant at the initial capacity scale.
Before this project, CATL's first overseas factory in Thuringia, Germany officially obtained the battery cell production license (April 4, 2022). The plant started construction in 2019 with a planned total investment of 1.8 billion euros and a planned production capacity of 14GWh. At present, the company has obtained an 8GWh battery cell production license.
B: On July 18, Envision Technology Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Spanish government
This agreement aims to promote the process of carbon neutrality in Spain. The two parties agreed to build the first zero-carbon industrial park in continental Europe in Spain, and to deploy power battery super factory, intelligent IoT technology center, green hydrogen factory, intelligent wind power equipment and other businesses to help Spain Build a new zero-carbon industrial system and an intelligent digital technology ecosystem.
In June this year, Spanish media reported that Envision Power will build a super factory in Navarmora de la Mata, Spain, with a planned production capacity of 30GWh, which will be completed and put into operation in 2025.
On March 16, Mercedes-Benz of Germany announced that it has reached a strategic cooperation with Envision Power, a battery technology company under Envision Technology Group: Envision Power will provide high-quality and high-security Mercedes-Benz new-generation luxury pure electric SUV star models EQS and EQE and zero-carbon power battery products.
Envision Power also announced that it will build a new digital zero-carbon power battery super factory in the United States and achieve mass production in 2025, which is also the second battery factory of Envision Power in North America.
In addition to factories in Spain and the United States, Envision Power has also deployed factories in Japan, the United Kingdom, and France. With the construction of the new factory, Envision Power has laid out 11 major production bases in China, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Spain, and the total production capacity of zero-carbon batteries will exceed 300GWh in 2026.
C: On June 27, Gotion Hi-Tech held the unveiling ceremony at the Göttingen base in Germany
The planned production capacity of the Göttingen base is 20GWh, officially opening the pace of "Made in Europe" for Gotion Battery. According to the plan, the project is divided into two phases: brownfield factory and greenfield factory. The first phase of the brownfield factory has been transformed, and it is expected that 5GWh will be put into operation before the end of this year. The brownfield and greenfield factories will be fully operational by 2025 and are expected to achieve an annual production capacity target of 20GWh.
In 2021, Gotion Hi-Tech also reported that it plans to establish battery joint venture factories in Vietnam and the United States.
D: On March 29, EVE Lithium Energy signed an agreement to build a Hungarian battery factory
EVE Lithium Energy said that it has signed a letter of intent with a subsidiary of the Hungarian Debrecen municipal government to buy land from it to build a factory for the production of new cylindrical power batteries.
E: November 2021 Funeng Technology signed an agreement with Turkey's TOGG Company
Funeng Technology signed a joint venture and supply agreement with the Turkish electric vehicle company TOGG. The joint venture company mainly develops power batteries for all products of TOGG. According to the plan, the design scale of the Turkish joint venture is 20GWh. The modules and PACKs will be made first, and the cells will be exported from China. After the Turkish market starts, the production of cells will be localized locally.
F: In March 021, BYD will build a battery factory in Europe
Fudi Battery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of BYD, released an internal recruitment information showing that Fudi Battery New Factory Preparation Office (European Group) is preparing to build the first overseas battery factory, which is mainly responsible for the production, packaging, storage and transportation of lithium-ion power batteries. business.
G: November 2020 Honeycomb Energy's German battery factory invested 2 billion euros
Honeycomb Energy announced that the German battery base will be located in Saarland, and two factories will be built. The module + battery pack factory will be put into production in mid-2022, and the cell + module factory will be put into production at the end of 2023. The total investment of the project will reach 2 billion euros and the total planned production capacity will be 30GWh.
H: Summary
Behind the active deployment of overseas factories by lithium-ion battery companies is the rapid increase in demand in overseas markets such as Europe. It can be seen that Europe is a popular destination for domestic power battery companies to build factories overseas.
According to data released by market research institutions, in the first half of this year, the number of new energy vehicle registrations in eight European countries (Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Italy, and Spain) was about 880,000. As of June, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Europe has reached 21%.
Some experts pointed out that the recent European auto market has been affected by factors such as the supply chain and the macro situation. Stimulated by the subsidy policy, the European market is expected to gradually pick up, and the annual sales volume is expected to reach 2.6 million units.
China's new energy vehicle exports have performed strongly, according to data from the China Automobile Association. Some enterprises have successfully entered the markets of countries and regions such as Europe. In the first half of the year, the export volume of new energy vehicles increased by 1.3 times year-on-year, accounting for 16.6% of the total vehicle exports.
SES Power pays attention to another data, which is China's lithium battery export status. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, in the first half of this year, China's lithium battery exports amounted to 130.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 75.3%, and the cumulative export volume was 3.427 billion. Batteries, an increase of 36.8% year-on-year.
This is a very good trend. Among the top 10 global power battery installed capacity companies, Chinese companies have also occupied 6 seats for a long time, and the overall installed capacity growth rate is higher than that of Japanese and Korean companies. With the advancement of the globalization strategy, the competitiveness of Chinese battery new energy companies in the international market will continue to improve, and the overseas layout will be accelerated again.
However, as a Chinese company, SES Power believes that overseas layouts also need to be alert to risks from geopolitics, environmental protection policies, industrial support, labor costs, culture and team building, and patent disputes. Therefore, we are more inclined to carry out construction actions in areas attracted by established or potential orders.
