  On March 26, Wu Kai, the chief scientist of CATL, said at a forum that in 2021, the electrification rate of the three major global markets will be fully accelerated. With the continuous increase of penetration rate, new energy vehicles have entered thousands of households, and users' anxiety and complaints about various shortcomings of new energy vehicles are also increasing, including mileage anxiety, safety anxiety, charging anxiety, and power outage in winter. Anxiety, low residual value anxiety, etc.

  He believes that solving these core pain points of users is the common responsibility of the entire industry chain, and battery companies are even more responsible. CATL will help the process of full electrification through "high-efficiency group technology", "heat-free diffusion technology", "combined power exchange overall solution", etc.

  A: Efficient group technology

  Consumers' pursuit of mileage is still a trend, but in the era of comprehensive marketization, long mileage must take into account economic issues. The efficient Pack technology can solve the mileage anxiety problem and take into account the economic needs. CATL has launched the third-generation CTP technology through continuous technological iteration. The company internally calls it Kirin battery, and its system weight, energy density and volumetric energy density continue to lead. Under the same chemical system and the same battery pack size, the power of the Kirin battery pack can be increased by 13% compared to the 4680 system.   B: No thermal diffusion technology

  For the safety of new energy vehicles - there are many closed building spaces in life now, such as garages, underground parking lots, air-raid bunkers, etc. These closed spaces are slow to exhaust smoke, have poor sight lines, and are difficult to rescue, which is also harmful to the safety of the battery system. put forward higher requirements.

  If there is no thermal diffusion in the system when the battery cell fails, the hazard of flue gas after thermal runaway can be greatly reduced; in the building, it is easier to design and install exhaust gas according to the thermal runaway gas production of the battery cell. smoke system. In this way, the safety of new energy vehicles can be greatly improved, and the safety of life and property can be protected to the greatest extent.

  The current requirement is that after the thermal runaway of the battery cell occurs, the battery system does not catch fire and does not explode within 5 minutes, so as to reserve safe escape time for the occupants, which is the minimum design standard. In fact, advantageous companies have taken the initiative to build multi-level safety protection technology to achieve the goal of non-thermal diffusion of battery systems to a higher standard.

  Wu Kai said that CATL has been committed to the safe design of high specific energy systems. In September 2020, CATL took the lead in realizing heat-free diffusion on 811 products, which is also known as a non-firing battery. It is expected that the heat-free diffusion technology with a driving range of up to 1000km will also be mass-produced in 2023.

  C: Combined power exchange overall solution

  In addition, in order to reduce the cost anxiety, charging anxiety and residual value anxiety of consumers and meet the application needs of multiple scenarios, CATL has launched an overall solution for combined battery replacement:

  For end users: separation of vehicle and electricity, reducing the initial purchase cost of electric vehicles; the number of battery packs can be selected according to actual travel needs, which is more economical;

  For car companies: models can be adapted to standard battery packs, no need to invest in a power exchange station independently, and the power exchange network can be shared;

  For power exchange operators: the power exchange stations are compatible with different grades and models of different brands, and the economy is more guaranteed;

  For social resources: share infrastructure, avoid repeated investment in social resources, such as land, electricity, etc., to avoid the problem of insufficient utilization.
