Apple Car battery suppliers or from LG and SK

　　Apple expects to finalize the selection of Apple's car suppliers and begin full-scale development within this year. Earlier it was reported that Apple was very interested in CATL from China and negotiated, but now it seems that Apple is actually more interested in Korean companies.

　　On January 12, South Korean media ETNews reported that Apple employees visited South Korea last month and met with several component manufacturers. This is Apple's second trip to South Korea since last summer to discuss EV batteries with LG and SK.

　　It is understood that Apple is looking to several South Korean electronics manufacturers to plan the final lineup to supply Apple cars. Apple has shown great interest in electronic parts companies with experience in mass production. According to Korean media reports, Apple began to discuss Apple car parts with a Korean electronic parts manufacturer at the end of last year, but the specific car specifications and performance have not yet been determined.

　　Industry insiders say Apple is interested in proposing an equity investment in a South Korean electronic parts maker. It also requires the company to triple its electronic parts production capacity. It's unclear whether the company that received the offer has accepted Apple's offer. After in-person meetings with some parts makers, Apple will continue to discuss parts through online meetings. As the design is still in a very early stage, there is no specific information or discussion related to the specification.

　　A person in charge from the parts industry said: "The business related to Apple's car is carried out in secret. If the information is leaked to a company, then the company may be removed from the list of candidate suppliers. So our process is very cautious."

　　Some component makers working with Apple in the smartphone space have even formed a "task force" to actively tackle Apple's car business. According to the report, Apple has established a policy to directly develop and manage battery materials for Apple's cars. Judging from the current situation, Apple is more inclined to cooperate with Korean companies in the battery field.

　　Korean media reports are consistent with the views of investment bank Wedbush. Wedbush recently released a report saying that Apple will select a major partner for Apple Car by the end of this year and announce it publicly.

　　Reuters previously reported that Apple aims to produce the "Apple Car" by 2024 and plans to use "next-generation" battery technology. However, recent news of some key supply chains has come out. Apple expects to release the Apple Car as soon as September 2022, at least two years earlier than originally planned, and its prototype car has been tested on the road in California, USA.
