The Indian government has been making every effort to promote the localization of the industry, and now it is beginning to see results: The Times of India reported that Tata Group plans to use US$403 million to build a 4GW solar cell manufacturing plant in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

In order to meet the high demand of solar developers, while minimizing dependence on imports, India is working to increase domestic solar cell and module production capacity. It is said that the Tata Group’s solar energy department and the government of Tamil Nadu have entered the final stage of negotiations on the construction of the battery plant. The company plans to invest about 30 billion Indian rupees ($403 million).

Tata Power Solar did not respond to outside requests for comment. However, if this plan is implemented as scheduled, it will obviously be a good thing for India, where solar photovoltaic manufacturing has been in a disadvantaged position for a long time, and it will bring the latest technology and products.

Prior to this expansion, Tata Power Solar had increased the solar module and battery capacity of its Bangalore plant to 1.1GW earlier this year. The Bangalore plant's monocrystalline PERC cell production capacity is currently 530MW, and the module production capacity (using half-cut monocrystalline PERC cells) is 580MW.

The state of Tamil Nadu in southeastern India is already home to Vikram Solar’s solar manufacturing plant. Vikram Solar recently held the inauguration ceremony of a 1.3GW module manufacturing plant, which includes a manufacturing line capable of accommodating M12 (210mm) battery modules and bifacial modules.

Last year, Vikram signed an agreement with the government of Tamil Nadu. This plant is the first phase of Vikram's expansion project in Tamil Nadu.

First Solar also plans to build a solar manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. In July, the company announced that it would put into operation a 3.3GWdc module plant in the second half of 2023.

The Indian government will provide additional support to companies that have established solar manufacturing operations through the Production Linked Incentive Program (PLI). The Minister of New Energy and Renewable Energy of India, RK Singh, revealed at the beginning of this month that the funding for the production-linked incentive program will be increased by more than five times to 244 billion Indian rupees!

Tata Power Solar is one of the 18 bidders that submitted an application to the PLI program, but according to consulting firm JMK Research & Analytics, Jindal India Solar Energy, Shirdi Sai Electricals and Reliance New Energy Solar are the three shortlisted for the program The beneficiary of funds.

Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.

Solar power generation system with lithium battery energy storage system is a very promising clean energy.
