Georgia Power plans to deploy projects that combine renewable energy with energy storage technology
Georgia Power Company, a Georgia utility company, recently released a draft request for proposals (RFP), planning to deploy 1GW utility-scale renewable energy with an installed capacity of Bidding will begin in the first quarter of 2022.
Renewable energy projects located in the continental United States with an installed capacity of more than 3Mw are also eligible to participate. Georgia Power is seeking independent deployment or mixed deployment projects that combine renewable energy and energy storage technology.
This "23-24RFP" tender is the company's second utility-scale tender after the release of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) in 2019. Georgia Power was planning to purchase up to 2GW of utility-scale renewable energy.
The company said at a media conference that Georgia Power already has installed capacity of 2.7GW renewable energy power generation facilities, and plans to deploy another 2.7GW renewable energy power generation facilities before the end of 2024.
Wilson Mallard, Director of Renewable Energy Development of the company, said: "Georgia Power is working closely with the Georgia Public Service Commission to increase the installed capacity of renewable energy for Georgia customers. We are eager to implement the next phase of request for proposal (RFP) to purchase additional renewable resources for our diverse power generation portfolio."
As the independent evaluator of the proposal, Accion Group, tenderers can register on the company's website to view the RFP and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) documents.
According to industry media reports in October, the Georgia Public Service Commission has approved Georgia Power’s plan to construct, own and operate a 65MW/260MWh battery energy storage project, which is the first project in the company’s 80MW independently deployed battery energy storage portfolio.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate battery is a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and it is the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
Solar power generation system with lithium battery energy storage system is a very promising clean energy.
