Firstly, in the production of gel batteries, not only the addition of glue dispensing equipment, but also special glue filling equipment is required. Due to the use of colloidal electrolyte, the viscosity of the colloidal electrolyte is high, and gelation may occur. Therefore, the control requirements for the production process are completely different from the production process of lead-acid batteries. The process is more complicated and the technology is difficult to master.
Second, the gel battery uses microporous plastic separators, which require higher porosity, better strength, and thinner thickness. The cost of high-quality microporous separators will be relatively high. For lead-acid batteries, the separator is made of ultra-fine glass fiber, the manufacturing process is relatively simple, and the cost is relatively low.
Third, colloidal batteries generally have a larger electrolyte design margin. Not only will the silicone gel material be increased, the amount of sulfuric acid electrolyte required will also be greater. The total weight of sulfuric acid electrolyte and silica gel is heavier, and the material cost is higher. Therefore, the overall cost of gel batteries will be higher than that of lead-acid batteries.
