Australia is actively promoting the deployment of solar + energy storage projects for schools

The utility company Synergy launched the Synergy Schools VPP pilot program in Perth, Western Australia, and deployed solar + energy storage projects for 25 schools across New South Wales. These actions show that Australia is promoting a school-based solar + energy storage project.

Synergy recently opened a lithium-ion battery energy storage system at Rossmoyne Senrior School in Perth, Western Australia. This is one of the company’s first 10 schools in this project to test how Virtual Power Plants (VPP) can help Schools better manage and use renewable energy.

 

As part of the Western Australian Government’s Distributed Energy Resource Roadmap, the pilot program will be led and implemented by Synergy. It will eventually deploy solar + energy storage projects for 16 schools, and another 6 schools are located in Geraldton. And Kalgoorlie City, the total investment in the plan will reach 8.8 million U.S. dollars.

 

Synergy installed a VPP and related infrastructure for Rossmoyne Senrior High School, including battery energy storage systems and solar power generation facilities, which will be managed to meet the school’s power needs and make the local grid more stable and reliable.

 

The opening and operation of the battery energy storage system marks the official launch of Synergy Schools VPP. The project will also serve as the school’s students’ science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects to deepen students’ understanding of renewable energy.

 

Western Australia Governor Mark McGowan said, “Western Australia is achieving an energy transition and is investing in a green energy future through virtual power plant (VPP) projects, which will create a sustainable future for schools, communities and major power grids in Western Australia. Energy opportunities."

 

The New South Wales government is launching its own solar + energy storage deployment plan, and announced on November 1 that it will bid for the first batch of 25 schools for solar power generation facilities.

 

This $20 million renewable energy infrastructure pilot program plans to install solar + energy storage projects in schools in the state, calculate the benefits and costs, and observe the impact of these projects on the grid.

 

New South Wales Energy Minister Matt Kean said: "The total roof area of NSW schools exceeds 8 million square meters. This pilot program will enable us to understand how to use it to support the next generation of renewable energy on a larger scale. This The US$20 million investment will allow us to evaluate the benefits of large-scale deployment of solar + energy storage projects in order to provide electricity to our schools and store or provide excess electricity to the grid."

 

Australian Minister of Education Sarah Mitchell said that the tender will be open to eligible applicants who will design, supply and install solar power generation facilities and battery energy storage systems after winning the bid. In order not to affect the normal operation of the school, these projects are expected to start construction during the school holidays.
