  Lead-acid batteries have long dominated the communications industry for decades. However, lead-acid batteries have short cycle life, large area, and high load-bearing requirements for the computer room, which are likely to cause environmental pollution. The development of lead-acid batteries in various countries tends to shrink. Lithium batteries naturally have the advantages that lead acid does not possess, such as high energy density, small footprint, and long cycle life.

  In recent years, the use of lead-acid batteries in data centers has declined year by year.

  With the rapid decline in the market share of lead-acid batteries, almost all 5G sites are covered by lithium batteries. Large-scale ISP customers have begun to use lithium batteries on a large scale, especially lithium iron phosphate batteries that can perfectly replace lead-acid batteries.

  It can be predicted that in the next 3 to 5 years, the market share of lithium batteries will approach or exceed that of lead-acid batteries. It is a consensus in various fields that lithium batteries will dominate the market in the future.

  However, there are still many challenges and bottlenecks in the application of lithium batteries in data centers, mainly due to the following two points:

  Cost is the bottleneck, but the future can be expected.

  With the extensive use of lithium batteries in electric vehicles, industrial energy storage, terminal equipment and other industries, the cost of lithium batteries has been declining year by year. However, the cost of lead-acid batteries (with lead) is on the rise due to environmental protection requirements and other reasons. Therefore, in the near future, the cost advantage of lithium batteries will become more apparent. However, from the current point of view, because the industry's lead-acid brands and price levels are uneven, we still feel that lithium batteries are more expensive than lead-acid.

  Reliability is still the biggest obstacle to the application of lithium batteries in the future.

  Although lithium batteries are widely used, electric vehicles and mobile phones have experienced accidents such as overheating, out of control, and fire. Data centers have higher requirements for reliability. In the event of a fire, the entire data center may suffer severe losses. Therefore, choosing a high-safety lithium iron phosphate battery and a stable BMS is the focus of the actual application process.
