The Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries (FCAB), jointly established by the US Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, the Department of Commerce, and the State Department, has released the National Blueprint for Lithium Batteries in the United States (2021-2030), which is the first Part of the US lithium battery development policy formulated by the government.

　　Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect substitute for lead-acid batteries and are the first choice in the energy storage industry. The United States needs urgent investment to establish a lithium battery manufacturing chain in the United States to keep up with the pace of Europe and East Asia.

　　The blueprint gives five main goals for the next ten years:

　　1. Ensure the safety of battery raw material supply, look for alternatives to sensitive raw materials, and prevent American lithium batteries from relying on sensitive materials.

　　2. Build the processing capacity of domestic lithium battery raw materials in the United States.

　　3. Stimulate the production capacity of precursors, batteries, and battery packs such as positive and negative materials in the United States.

　　4. Take the lead in establishing the industrial capacity of waste battery recycling and material recycling in the United States.

　　5. Maintain America's leading advantage in battery technology research and development.

　　The establishment of a large-scale lithium battery recycling industry chain is the most valuable item in the United States’ lithium battery national blueprint. When recycling standards are established, the manufacturing standards of battery packs will be affected forward, so that in the field of battery manufacturing, the United States can have greater Influence.

　　Maintaining technological superiority is the only proper course to take in any field of competition for the United States, and it is no exception in the lithium battery competition. Among the specific goals set by the document, the short-term priority in 2025 is to develop cobalt-free materials; standardize lithium battery technology and configuration; and establish technology transfer standards to ensure that the technology invented by the United States remains in the United States.
