What are the advantages and disadvantages of lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries in electric forklifts?
The role of an electric forklift is very clear. It is an indispensable tool in many occasions. In many areas, it cannot operate normally even without it.
In this segment of the industrial vehicle market, traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen energy batteries, and the recent emergence of new iron-nickel batteries, pure lead batteries, maintenance-free gel batteries, etc. are pushing the form of electric forklifts to diversification.
The general view is that lithium batteries will become the main battery form for industrial vehicles in the future. Due to the safety, quality stability and price fluctuations of lithium batteries, the application of lithium batteries in electric forklifts still creates uncertainty.
So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries used in electric forklifts?
(1) Lithium battery
Advantages: fast charging, maintenance-free, clean and no dripping, long service life, especially lithium iron phosphate batteries can achieve 4000 cycles of cycle life and light weight.
Disadvantages: There is a risk of fire, and a strong BMS is required for protection.
(2) Lead-acid battery
Advantages: stable quality, mature technology, stable supply, residual value and simple handling
Disadvantages: Don’t support fast charging, need spare batteries, have environmental pollution problems, short service life, and cumbersome maintenance.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
For a long time, lead-acid batteries should still be the standard configuration of electric forklifts, but lithium batteries are the direction of sustainable development of electric forklifts.
