Although the development of lithium batteries has had a huge impact on lead-acid batteries, especially lithium iron phosphate batteries, which can perfectly replace lead-acid batteries, are becoming more and more mature, but lead-acid batteries are still the battery with the largest market share and the widest range of use in chemical batteries. .
As a veteran in the battery industry, lead-acid batteries still have huge market demand because they have some advantages that other batteries do not have:
Performance advantage
At present, the large-scale industrialized secondary batteries mainly include lead-acid batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries and lithium-ion batteries. Among them, nickel-cadmium batteries contain the highly toxic element cadmium, which has been gradually eliminated.
Compared with other secondary batteries, lead-acid batteries mainly have the following performance advantages:
1. The battery with the longest time to realize industrialized production and the most mature technology.
2. Non-flammable, good safety.
3. High working voltage, suitable for high-rate discharge applications such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEV).
4. It can be used for floating charge and has excellent shallow charge and shallow discharge performance. It is suitable for uninterruptible power supply (UPS), new energy storage, grid peak shaving and valley filling.
5. The battery can be made into thousands of ampere hours, which provides convenience for large-scale energy storage.
Cost advantage
The main components of lead-acid batteries are lead and lead compounds, which account for 60% of the total mass, so they are the cheapest secondary batteries. The price per Wh is about 1/3 of that of lithium-ion batteries. At the same time, the recovery value of lead is higher.
Recycling advantages
Lead-acid batteries are the easiest batteries to be recycled and reused. The global production of recycled lead has surpassed the production of primary lead, and the recycling rate of used lead-acid batteries in the United States has exceeded 98.5%. However, most countries have not yet achieved effective recycling and regeneration of lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
Compared with lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have the advantages of long life, small footprint, low load-bearing requirements, simple maintenance, environmental protection, reliability and stability.
