Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV, or Building Integrated Photovoltaic), provides electricity to the building by laying photovoltaics on the outer surface of the building, and can also be connected to the public grid.
Through the combination of photovoltaics and buildings, it can not only provide electricity but also be used as building materials and decorative materials, so that the materials can be fully utilized and perform multiple functions. BIPV is a technology that integrates solar power (photovoltaic) products into buildings as building materials or decorative materials.
Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is different from the form in which the photovoltaic system is attached to the building (BAPV: Building Attached PV). BAPV is suitable for occasions where photovoltaic power generation is not considered in the original design of the building, and BIPV is suitable for occasions where the demand for photovoltaic power generation is considered in the original design of the building.
BIPV's power generation system is divided into independent power generation and grid-connected power generation:
Off-grid power generation system
Refers to the electrical energy generated by the photovoltaic system for direct use by the building. It is recommended to add an energy storage system to smooth the power output.
On-grid power generation system
The photovoltaic system is connected to the public power grid, and the two-way interaction of electric energy with the power grid will be carried out according to the intensity of sunlight, so as to ensure continuous power supply.

At present, the application of grid-connected power generation systems is more extensive, because the grid-connected power generation systems have more stable power continuity. Off-grid power generation systems need to use energy storage systems to solve the instability of photovoltaic power generation due to changes in sunlight.
